As part of our curriculum development, we are looking to incorporate even more Outdoor Learning. Today our maths lead, Mrs Band, and our Outdoor Education lead, Mr Ellis-Davies took two groups of pupils out into Newquay for some challenging outdoor maths.
Years 3 and 4 built on their recent perimeter and area work as they produced quotes for new fencing for Trenance Boating Lake.
Years 5 and 6 took advantage of the spring low tide to visit the harbour. Here, they worked in groups to problem solve using their perimeter, area and volume learning. They also used up-to-date information to calculate the annual invoice for running a fishing boat out of Newquay Harbour, along with all of the ancillary costs involved.
We were very impressed with the mathematical vocabulary and problem-solving ability shown by the pupils. Mrs Band and Mr Ellis-Davies
