Welcome from our Head Pupils: Dusty, Alyssia, Ziggy & Rayyan.
We would like to welcome you to Newquay Junior Academy (NJA). We are a large junior school with just under 500 KS2 pupils, set in the heart of our wonderful Cornish town. With the beautiful beaches on our doorstep, we feel very lucky to live and learn here. NJA is a happy place where everyone is cared for, staff are always ready to help, and pupils feel supported and valued. Our community represents Newquay in a positive way- whether through the beach cleans we regularly take part in or our annual Christmas song, which raises money for the local foodbank.
At NJA, we celebrate difference every day. This comes together during our Wellbeing Week in the summer term, when visitors- including former pupils-share their unique experiences. We are proud to be inclusive: everyone learns about their own lives, the lives of others and the wider world. This helps us all develop tolerance, respect and understanding.
Learning here is exciting and varied. We enjoy trips and visits that bring our lessons to life. We also love the wide range of sport on offer- football, cross country, swimming, basketball and more- and every year group enjoys a residential trip. We have already been camping, hiked at night, tried sea-based activities, and of course enjoyed some delicious snacks! We are especially excited about our upcoming London trip to see the capital’s most famous sights. At lunchtime we can choose from a range of clubs, play on our state-of-the-art equipment, or enjoy healthy, wholesome food in the canteen.
Our school is well resourced for learning. There are twenty classrooms and a fantastic library bursting with books for all ages and abilities. We regularly welcome authors who inspire us as readers and writers. Outdoors, we are lucky to have a spacious sports pitch, two playgrounds, a large field and a quiet, shady area for reading or chatting. With an Outdoor Education Lead on staff, we take every opportunity to learn beyond the classroom-whether that’s in our school grounds, on the beach, or even at the zoo-and we never let the weather stop us!
As Head Pupils, one of our favourite responsibilities is helping Mrs. Findlay in our weekly Celebration Assembly. It’s a privilege to present certificates, postcards and medals to pupils who have achieved something special.
Our school motto is “Pup Huny Rag Les An Myns”, which means “Each for the good of the greater number.” At NJA we believe everyone has the potential to achieve great things, and by working together we can go even further.
